As a Senior Industrial Designer, you'll own client projects end to end and help shape how Grain works as it grows.
What you'll do
Lead client engagements from kickoff and strategy through concept, development, and production handoff
Set the design direction on projects and present it confidently to founders, executives, and investors
Define form, CMF, and interaction for consumer hardware, from wearables and audio to health and home devices
Partner with Dovetail engineers on architecture and DFM, making the trade-offs that protect both the product's character and its manufacturability
Guide prototyping and user testing early, so real feedback shapes the design
Own the last mile: CMF sign-off, supplier and factory reviews, and resolving tooling and finish issues through launch
Mentor contract and junior designers, and help raise the bar on process and craft across the studio
What we're looking for
8+ years of industrial design experience, with multiple consumer products taken from concept to mass production
Expert sketching, surfacing, and CAD skills (SolidWorks, Rhino, or Fusion), plus high-end rendering
Hands-on experience with factories, suppliers, and CMF development
A portfolio that shows a clear point of view, strong taste, and a record of shipping
Strong client-facing skills and the judgment to lead a project with minimal oversight
Bonus: a background in mechanical engineering, agency or consultancy experience, or work with premium brands

CMF exploration and product refreshes
What we're looking for
5+ years of experience, with shipped consumer hardware
An independent, fast working style and dependable delivery
Fluency in SolidWorks, Rhino, or Fusion, plus KeyShot or a similar renderer
Availability for 2–12 week engagements and some overlap with Pacific Time

A product's brand should feel as considered as its form. You'll create identities, packaging, and launch materials for our hardware clients, and help evolve Grain's own brand.
Typical scope
Identity systems, including logo, type, color, and guidelines
Packaging, from concept through print-ready files, working with our industrial designers
Launch assets such as decks, web, and social
Brand work for Grain's website and case studies
What we're looking for
6+ years of brand and identity experience, ideally including physical products or packaging
A strong point of view and range, from premium to approachable
Expert skills in Figma and Adobe CS
An understanding of how a brand lives on a physical object
Bonus: web design, motion, or 3D skills
